Did you know that if you are a Georgia resident, your county of residency funds at least 50% of their Indigent Defense program? Your tax dollars fund this; you should likely be aware of what this term entails. The idea of Indigent Defense is when lawyers are appointed to criminal cases to those who cannot afford to provide their own legal representation. In my research, I delve into the logistics of coming up with a new way to fund indigent defense through government privatization to avoid tax dollars being misappropriated. Even at the county level, your money should matter; you should know where your money is being appropriated. I will explain the consequences and benefits of indigent defense through my research. Through my internship, I focused on a variety of legal cases, including criminal cases that are provided by indigent defense. In my future, although I have decided not to pursue a legal career, I will have knowledge on taxes and the legal system for when I one day decide to start a company.
